This painting depicts a portrait of a person looking downwards as loops of barbed wire wrap around their head. Their thoughts seem to be sharp, guarded, and tangled. Parts of the portrait are opaque, and part are translucent, while part of the head/brain is blocked out entirely by a gestural purple swath of paint that cannot be seen through. Loose and painterly brushstrokes are juxtaposed with delicate line work and fluid portrait drawing.

The painting is 30” x 22.25”, Oil on paper. Arches Oil Paper is archival and makes for a unique painting surface with a beautiful deckled edge, which can be highlighted in the framing process.
