Prudentia
Prudentia
The title of the work, "Prudentia", comes from the female personification of the virtue. The painting is representative of learning to see past the veil of denial to discern truth from fear, in order to arrive at greater understanding and self-awareness.
The snake in the painting is symbolic of truth, rebirth, and transformation. The chains in the work represent the connections between all things; the way everything is connected and affects links further down the chain. It is possible to make out an abstracted figure in the painting, seated with their back turned towards the viewer. They are in a state of contemplation and seem to be on the precipice of something.
This painting is 30” x 22.25”, Oil on paper. Arches Oil Paper is archival and makes for a unique painting surface with a beautiful deckled edge, which can be highlighted in the framing process.
