Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum) a prickly plant that has distinctive purple flowers and white veins. Traditional stories say were caused by a drop of the Virgin Mary's milk falling onto its leaves. The leaves are edible, as long as you remove the spines! It is a powerful hepatic, or liver protectant. Its ability to protect the liver has no equivalent in the pharmaceutical drug world.
