I've Dreamt Of That For Years
This series of paintings explores the moiré effect, a phenomenon observed across mathematics, science, and the visual arts. The painted image is obstructed by an “interference pattern”, in which an opaque ruled pattern with transparent gaps is overlaid on top of a painted image. The pattern interferes with the image, displacing it through veiling, and gives it a unique rippled appearance.

This series of paintings explores the moiré effect, a phenomenon observed across mathematics, science, and the visual arts. The painted image is obstructed by an “interference pattern”, in which an opaque ruled pattern with transparent gaps is overlaid on top of a painted image. The pattern interferes with the image, displacing it through veiling, and gives it a unique rippled appearance- especially when the image is observed through the mediation of a screen.
This original, semi-monochromatic oil painting is 16” x 12” on Arches Oil Paper. The painting has a 7/8” white border surrounding the image that helps protect the artwork during the framing process. There is a consistent vertical-ridged texture across the entirety of the painting, which is disrupted by thick horizontal brushstrokes. The shape of the brushstrokes aim to create the shape of a figure running towards the water.
